HOW I TRANSFORMED INTO THE COUNTESS!

My absolute favourite day of the year is Halloween. I’ve loved Halloween since I was a child and always wanted go to a party or a night out dressed up but until recently I never found any sort of events where people really made the effort. Sometimes you go all out dressed up and nobody else does and it can be pretty awkward! Last year I went to Rivington Barn for their Halloween party and it was absolutely amazing! Everyone dressed up, the vibe was brilliant and I knew I wanted to do it every year since then. My fiancé and I bought the tickets earlier in the year and decided to go as two character from the tv show American horror story. I absolutely love AHS and the series Hotel is one of my favourites. I decided to go as The countess played by Lady Gaga and Jordan wanted to go as James Patrick March played by Evan Peters. The countess is a vampire and she stays alive by cutting people’s throats with her extra long nails and drinks their blood! James March is her ex husband that she married for money and is haunted by his ghost living in the hotel where he died.

My wig and dress were from shein, shoes and bag were from temu and I bought the gloves off Vinted. Because her nails are a big part of the look I had to stick false nails onto the gloves which were way more difficult than I anticipated so luckily my friend helped out!

As you know lady gaga loves a bleached eyebrow but I wasn’t going to commit to doing that so I had to think of a way to get my brows looking blonde! This too a few practice attempts a few days before read on to find out what I did!

Starting with the wig! I’ve never worn a lace front wig before so I had no idea how to apply on my own. I went to my friends in the morning and she helped me apply the wig. She pinned all my hair up into pin curls and then used a wig glue to stick the front down. It was so fun being blonde I’ve never dyed my hair before so I loved having something completely different!

Next I started with the eyebrows. To get the bleached effect I made sure I didn’t dye my eyebrows two months before. I wanted the hairs to still be visible so fully blocking them out wasn’t really an option. My first idea for the practice run was spraying L’Oréal root touch up spray in shade blonde on to a disposable mascara wand and brush them through my eyebrows. I genuinely thought this would work but it just turned them an orangey grey! Next attempt was to cover them in concealer, while this did work they still had a grey tinge to them. My final practice was the winning one and here’s what I did. I applied a peach colour corrector on first to cancel out the dark hair and then I applied Tarte Shape Tape all over the eyebrows and pressed it into the hairs. Once the concealer dried I mixed white and yellow face paint and a little more concealer together and brushed through the eyebrows to create a bleached effect.

Lady gaga is also known for her amazing eye make up so it was really fun to recreate her signature style. I applied a matte brown eyeshadow in a wing shape and added more intensity on the outer edges. I then highlighted the inner corners of my eyes. Lady gaga has a little mole under her eye that she sometimes emphasises with make up and I just so happen to have a freckle in the same place so did the same and added liquid eyeliner over the top.

I went a little lighter with my foundation colour and contoured my cheek bones and forehead.

Lips were another difficult choice. If you read my last post you’ll know I was a bit worried about wearing a red lipstick as I didn’t want to be fussing about reapplying all night so I went for a lip stain. I applied the stain and then defined the lip with a lipliner and then patted a tiny bit of red lipstick over the top. This gave me the colour intensity without it being too sticky and more comfortable to wear all night.

To make it a little more ‘Halloween’ I added blood down the side of my mouth. Fake blood can be messy as it doesn’t really dry down and it didn’t want my wig to stick to it. So I used lipliner instead, I drew a trickle and added shading using eyeshadow.

This is the overall look! We had a brilliant night I can’t wait to go again next year!
