ROSACEA SKINCARE ROUTINE

As April is Rosacea awareness month I thought I’d share my skincare routine that works for me! I’ve had rosacea for over a year now and a lot of skincare products really trigger my skin. I’ve found oils, harsh chemicals and fragranced products really flare up my skin so these are my tried and tested products that work best for me. Hopefully this helps anyone else in the same boat and drop me some recommendations if you have the same issue with your skin and what works best for you!
Recently I have found the La Roche-Posay Toleriane range to be an absolute game changer. My favourite product is the cleanser, from the first time trying this product I knew this would be something I would definitely repurchase. The texture is lovely and even though it’s very gentle it still does a really good job of removing make up without stripping the skin.

Around my eyes I can use pretty much anything it doesn’t seem to flare up my skin at all. However I bought a kit from La Roche-Posay Toleriane range which included an eye cream and I really like it. It feels very hydrating, doesn’t sting the eyes and works well under make-up.

Face cream I have been recently using the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Dermallergo Cream for Sensitive Skin and I really like this too. Previously I was using Aveeno Oat gel moisturiser which I did enjoy however I did still find my skin would be dry. The La Roche-Posay Toleriane Dermallergo Cream seems to be much more moisturising but hasn’t flared my skin up like some rich moisturisers do. I use this morning and evening.

Azeliac Acid helps with inflammation and redness so I use The Inkey List. 10% Azelaic Acid Serum under my moisturiser at least 2-3 times a week.

For Exfoliation I much prefer to use a chemical exfoliation rather than a harsh scrub. My favourite is the Inkey List PHA toner which I tend to use once or twice a week.

SPF has been my biggest struggle so far. After lots of research I found mineral SPFs were most recommended for people with rosacea however many I tried still did flare up my skin. Both La Roche Posay Toleriane Rosaliac AR SPF30 and La Roche Posay Anthelios UVMune 400 Invisible Fluid Non-Perfumed Suncream SPF50 seemed to work best for me but I do sometimes still get flare ups from using these. As much as it’s advised to wear SPF every day for myself it’s not possible so I only wear SPF on the days I go outside with no make-up on. When I’m wearing make up I try to avoid harsh sunshine and count on the SPF that’s added into the make-up. I’m aware it’s not enough protection but unfortunately that’s just what I have to do to prevent flare ups.

Hypochlorous acid is another recent find of mine and it’s been really helping my skin. Whenever I can feel the start of a flare up where my skin gets itchy and red I spray this over my face and it calms it right down. I read lots of reviews of other brands and the main complaint was the very strong chlorine scent which I knew I didn’t want for my face. The one I chose was ISO SKIN Hypochlorous Spray and it barely has a scent and I am very happy with how it’s helped my skin.

There’s no cure for rosacea but having a good skincare regime is very important. Flare ups still unfortunately happen but I’ve found by using this regime my skin is the best it’s been in a long time!
