MAC PAINT POT REVIEW

Paint Pot – Shade Painterly

Something about a MAC delivery makes me so excited. When I first learned how to do make up I remember receiving my college kit and it was mostly MAC cosmetics and I still remember the excitement unpacking it all and feeling so posh! That feeling still sticks with me when I open a MAC order so I think if I had to pick a favourite brand it would be MAC.

Now the MAC Paint Pot is a very highly regarded product that honestly I’ve just never really thought about purchasing until now. I currently use the MAC 24 Hour Extend Eye Base and I do love it. The product works really well at keeping the eyeshadow on all day however I do like to sometimes carve out the brows or add a little coverage to the eyelid but concealer does affect the longevity of your eyeshadow. The MAC Paint Pot seems to be the answer to what I’ve been looking for – an eyeshadow primer that conceals the lid but keeps the eyeshadow on all day. I purchased shade Painterly.

The colour looks a bit darker than I was expecting. The shade Painterly suggests it’s suitable for fair to medium cool skin tones but after swatching on my hand it does look a little dark for me. I will be trying the Paint Pot with eyeshadow to see if it works as a primer and also without eyeshadow to see if it works better than a concealer on the lid.

I applied Paint Pot to the lid and carved out the brow.

I then applied eyeshadow over the top. The eyeshadow went on really easily and intensified the pigment. Let’s see whether it keeps the eyeshadow on all day!

8 hours later and absolutely no creasing. This most definitely works as an eye primer!

The next day I tried the Paint Pot alone. I ideally didn’t want to set with any powder however it did start to crease after around 10 minutes. I buffed out the creases and then applied a small amount of pressed powder over the top. This is what I would normally do with concealer on my lids if I didn’t need it to last for than a few hours. So it didn’t bother me having to add a touch of powder but it’s good to know it is necessary.

I then finished off my eye make-up and I love how it looks. It’s given me a nice smooth lid cancelling out any redness or veins on the eyelid.

I left this on for 8 hours and absolutely no creasing! I am blown away how well this lasted. Usually if I am not wearing any eyeshadow I apply concealer to my lids and then powder and this creases after about 3 hours.

FINAL THOUGHTS…

I love the concept of having an eye primer with coverage meaning you can wear it alone or add eyeshadow over the top. It does need to be set with a finishing powder or eyeshadow but it most definitely lasts all day. I love this product my only negative is I wish they did more flesh tone shades! I feel Painterly is just a touch too dark for me and looking at the other shades I don’t think any will suit my skin tone as close to this one. I feel I would have to buy at least 3 of the colours if I were to add to my professional make-up kit (which I think I probably will as I do love this product!)
