HOW TO FIX A BROKEN POWDER

How annoying is it when you accidentally drop a make-up powder or you take your make-up bag away with you and open it up and something has smashed? This happens ALL the time with my make-up kit and it’s really annoying and upsetting. Until recently I have unfortunately binned any broken make-up and replaced them but luckily I found a hack which fixes them!

Lugging my kit around for work and wheeling the suitcase over bumps can often clang my powders together and they break. Slimmer packaging is preferred to keep a make-up artists kit more compact however the less protection with the packaging the easier they smash. This is what I’ve found with some of my recent Beauty Bay blushers which I absolutely love and how slim they are however I’ve had a few breakages.

I had heard of this hack with rubbing alcohol however I thought it was only a product available in America until I recently found out it’s just what they call surgical spirit. I tried a few pharmacies and shops for surgical spirit and couldn’t find any in store so I ordered a bottle off Amazon next day delivery. The one I found was actually called rubbing alcohol but I did search surgical spirit when ordering.

As you can see my blusher is completely broken.

I crushed the blusher up more into a finer texture inside a freezer bag and poured the powder back into the container and then sprayed surgical spirit on top. This was a complete disaster, it sprayed the powder everywhere and just clumped the product! This is one of the ways I read online to do but did not work for me.

Take two with the other method I read! I poured the powder on to a plate and mixed a good few drops of surgical spirit in to create a liquidy paste. Not too thin but not too thick think the consistency of a mousse. I then scraped it back into the container and tried to smooth it out with a tooth pick.

This was the first time I have tried this so it wasn’t as neat as maybe it will be after a few more tries! I left it out to dry overnight and then cleaned round the edges once it was fully dry.

Here’s how it looks!

Not perfect but it has salvaged the product so it’s back to being usable. It’s definitely a great hack if you’re upset one of your make-up products have broken. It might not look completely smooth but it still works exactly the same way as before it was broken!
